ELO Rating & Ranking System
ChainClash uses two parallel systems to measure player performance:
ELO Rating – measures individual skill in ranked games
Rank – represents leaderboard position based on total kills
They are related but not the same. ELO affects matchmaking and competitive integrity. Rank reflects how high you sit on the global leaderboard.
ELO Rating System
What ELO Is
ELO is a numerical rating that represents your skill in ranked games. Higher ELO means stronger performance against other players. All competitive matchmaking in ranked modes is influenced by ELO values.
Default ELO
All new players start with 1000 ELO
1000 acts as the baseline if a player does not yet have an assigned rating
When ELO Changes
ELO only changes under specific conditions:
Ranked games: ELO increases or decreases
Free play games: ELO does not change
Wins raise ELO
Losses reduce ELO
The exact ELO adjustment depends on:
your ELO vs opponents’ ELO
match outcome
game result type
Winning against higher-rated players yields larger gains; losing to lower-rated players causes larger penalties.
Where ELO Is Displayed
Your ELO is visible throughout the application:
leaderboard
ranked lobbies
chat messages
home page
account/profile page
ranked game result screen
ELO Change Feedback
After each ranked match, you see:
previous ELO → new ELO
amount gained or lost
positive changes marked visually as gains
negative changes marked visually as losses
Example:
1000 → 1025 (+25 ELO)1000 → 985 (-15 ELO)
Free play games show no ELO change.
Rank System
What Rank Is
Rank is your position on the global leaderboard. It is 1-indexed, meaning:
Rank 1 = best
Rank 2 = second best
Rank is not tied to ELO. It is primarily based on total kills.
How Rank Is Calculated
Rank is determined entirely by leaderboard ordering:
Players are sorted by total kills (descending)
Tie-breakers may use additional stats such as wins or games played
Your position in the sorted list determines your rank number
Rank updates dynamically whenever:
your kills change
other players’ kills change
leaderboard refreshes
Rank Display Locations
Rank appears in:
leaderboard page
home page rank badge
chat next to username
Top three ranks receive special visual emphasis. Players below top 3 display rank numbers (4, 5, 6, etc.).
